Nirupama Desilva MD, FACOG
Dr. Rupa DeSilva has always known that she wanted to be an OBGYN. What surprised her is that she enjoyed Pediatrics as well. The love of both areas was a perfect mix and thus sparked her interest for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She pursued a fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. Dr. DeSilva values her relationship with each patient and the care they receive. “I have a passion for caring for young girls with gynecologic needs. Their needs are different than the average adult patient. Understanding those differences can improve care of these young patients and promote patient comfort and ease.”
Dr. DeSilva is nationally known in the arena of pediatric and adolescent gynecology and has received multiple grants to help promote education for teens and help decrease risky behaviors amongst adolescents. Dr. DeSilva has published many articles in various journals and owing to her knowledge in the medical field, she lectures nationally and internationally on topics of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. Some of her more recent talks have been regarding breast disorders in adolescents, abnormal vaginal bleeding in the adolescent, and the prevention of teenage pregnancy. She has also created multiple interactive tools to help educate teens about their own health. Each year, Best Doctors, Inc, founded by Harvard Medical School Physicians, identifies highly respected doctors in each medical specialty. In 2016 she has been selected among her peers for recognition on the list of “Best Doctors 2016.” Dr. DeSilva is a member of the Tulsa County Medical Society, the Oklahoma State Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the North American Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.
