Grant Cox, MD

Grant Cox, MD, is a board-certified OB/GYN who has cared for women in the Tulsa community for more than 25 years. At The Women’s Health Group, his practice is focused primarily on gynecology, with particular interests in menopause and hormone replacement therapy, gynecologic and minimally invasive surgery, endometriosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, and early pregnancy care.

A significant focus of Dr. Cox’s practice is helping women navigate perimenopause and menopause. He believes this stage of a woman’s life deserves thoughtful, individualized medical care and that women should have the opportunity to fully understand their treatment options. He has extensive experience with hormone replacement therapy and works with each patient to develop an approach based on her symptoms, medical history, personal risk factors, and goals.

Dr. Cox takes a comprehensive approach to menopause care that extends beyond hot flashes and other traditional symptoms. He talks with patients about concerns such as sleep, sexual health, bone health, energy, and overall well-being. When hormone therapy is appropriate, his goal is to use it thoughtfully and safely, with appropriate follow-up and monitoring. He is also interested in healthy aging and helping women make informed choices that support their health, vitality, and quality of life as they grow older.

Gynecologic surgery has been a major part of Dr. Cox’s practice throughout his career, and he brings extensive surgical experience to The Women’s Health Group. He evaluates and treats a broad range of conditions that may require surgery, including uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian and adnexal conditions, pelvic pain, and other complex gynecologic problems. He has extensive experience with hysterectomy and minimally invasive surgical techniques and believes that choosing surgery should be a thoughtful decision made together with the patient after discussing both surgical and nonsurgical options.

Dr. Cox has a particular interest in the surgical treatment of endometriosis. When surgery is appropriate, he believes in identifying and excising endometriosis rather than simply treating the symptoms it causes. His goal is to understand what is contributing to a patient’s pain and develop an individualized treatment plan designed to improve both her symptoms and long-term quality of life.

Recurrent miscarriage and pregnancy loss have been important areas of Dr. Cox’s practice throughout his career. He understands how difficult it can be for patients and couples to experience repeated pregnancy losses, particularly when they do not have an explanation for why they are occurring. He enjoys taking the time to investigate potential causes, explain the findings, and develop a thoughtful plan for a future pregnancy.

Although Dr. Cox no longer provides obstetric care through delivery, he continues to enjoy caring for patients during the earliest stages of pregnancy. He sees patients during the first trimester to confirm that a pregnancy is developing appropriately, address early concerns, and help establish a healthy foundation for the pregnancy before transitioning ongoing obstetric care.

Dr. Cox received his undergraduate degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in 1992 and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1996. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology through the University of Oklahoma, finishing residency in 2000. He became board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2003 and is licensed to practice medicine in Oklahoma.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Cox has been extensively involved in organized medicine through the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), serving in leadership roles at the state, district, and national levels. He believes physicians who care for patients every day should have a meaningful voice in shaping health policies and improving the delivery of women’s health care.

After more than two decades of practice, what Dr. Cox values most are the relationships he has developed with his patients. Many of those relationships have continued through different stages of their lives, and he considers it a privilege to continue caring for them. His goal is to provide straightforward, evidence-based care, take the time to listen, and make sure patients understand their options and are active participants in decisions about their health.

Dr. Cox and his wife, Tracey Lakin, MD, who is also an OB/GYN at The Women’s Health Group, live in Tulsa and are the parents of twins.
